Meet Elon Geffrard

BS, ICCE, CLC, CD (DONA)

Co-founder & Perinatal Support and Education Director

Elon is a birth doula through DONA International, certified lactation counselor, and childbirth educator. She finds her greatest joys in supporting her community as a “village auntie”; serving families as they transition into parenthood and advocating for the inherent right for all families to experience holistic, quality, and respectful care before, during after pregnancy and birth.    She is also a doula with the Michigan Prison Doula Initiative, serving incarcerated pregnant persons and provides support directly during their labor and birth experience. Elon has had a 10-year career in public health, working with local public health departments to consulting national public health organizations, including the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the National Center for Fatality Review and Prevention. Her last role in public health was as a maternal-child health equity consultant with an expanding focus on birth equity and reproductive justice.

In 2019, Elon completed the Maternal Child Health Immersion in Havana, Cuba, in partnership with the National School of Public Health and Charles Drew University, studying the nuances of Cuba’s unique Maternal and Child Health Care system, and has continued work with the National School of Public Health in Havana, Cuba.

She received her formal education from Michigan State University. She also co-founded Birth Detroit, an easy access prenatal and postpartum clinic, and Detroit’s first freestanding birth center. Her focus has always been community, knowing that we do our best work in solidarity with a focus on liberation and that communities know what they need. She is led by the phrase “we must lovingly hold parents so they can lovingly hold their babies.”
